Car Buying Tips |
Research: Car buying is supposed to be fun. You get to test drive new cars, pick out favorite colors, and play with all the options. But for a lot of folks, car buying is a drag. They're worried they won't get a good deal. Take some time and research what you're looking for, what you would like to pay, and what you can afford. Then you can concentrate on the fun aspects of picking out your dream car. |
Pick your dealership wisely: National and local news programs have recently run features on unscrupulous car dealerships preying on the innocent. While most dealers don't do this, it's still nice to know you're dealing with a reputable business. Check with the local Chamber of Commerce, the local chapter of the Better Business Bureau, or any other local consumer group. Ask how long the store has been in business (We've been here since 1931). Ask whether the dealership owner lives in the same community as the store. Ask whether they've signed, or even heard of, the NADA Code of Ethics. It never hurts to know a little about the place before you spend your money. |
Ask questions while buying: When you buy a new or used car, whether you finance, lease, or pay with nickels and dimes, you will sign a lot of documents. While our financial service managers are good people and each has been with the company a while, they can run through the paperwork pretty quickly. If you come across anything you do not understand, ask questions. Never sign anything you don't understand! It will save a lot of confusion and unwanted surprises. |
Be Prepared: It's good for the Boy Scouts and it's good for you. When you come to visit a dealership, bring as much info on your trade as possible. Your most current registration, your auto insurance information, your payoff and loan account number, and/or your title are needed to trade a vehicle along with a valid driver's license. If you have all these documents when you're car shopping, the salesperson will know you mean business. Plus, knowing the current payoff on the trade will allow the dealership give you a more accurate idea of the monthly payment on the new car. |
Doing a little homework and asking the right questions will help anyone get the best deal on their next vehicle. At West Chevrolet, our sales people have only one job: to help you find the right car. If you follow the above steps you can go shopping with a fun attitude, have a great car-buying experience, and save some money. | |
