OUR COMPANY
The West Family has actively managed the Blount County Chevrolet store since 1931 and we are proud to be one of the leading GM dealerships in the state. Our customers depend on us for their second largest purchase behind their home. These clients have come to value our commitment to helping them find a great vehicle, a fair deal, and quick and easy service & repair after they drive it home. To get a better understanding of who we are and what makes us successful, you should get to know our people, because the employees are West Chevrolet.
DIVERSITY
At West Chevrolet we recognize that having a diverse workforce encourages creativity and growth opportunity. To that end we are committed to creating an environment that values diversity and promotes inclusion. Recruitment at West Chevrolet has a single guiding principle - we want to recruit the best person for every position. Your academic & work experience and your understanding of the car business are less important to us than the personal qualities you bring with you. It is your intellect, your personality, and your positive attitude that will make you stand out.
CULTURE
West Chevrolet has successfully grown and adapted without losing site of its small town roots. In 1985 we left our downtown Maryville facility and moved to the current location where we tripled in size and volume and now serve all of East Tennessee and parts of North Carolina, Kentucky, and North Georgia. Despite the growth, we still have many of the managers and employees who worked at the small downtown store and that easy-going attitude is refreshing to customers used to a more impersonal approach. Do not confuse easy-going with lackadaisical or not goal-driven. We do have our Operational Absolutes we live by and work towards everyday. Our company’s attitude-climate coupled with our commitment to community service is essential if we want to keep the best employees and the happiest customers.
WORK AND FAMILY
At any company, beyond the culture and the compensation, there are a number of other provisions the employer can do to make life easier for the team. We set out to broaden our work/life offerings, with the goal of significantly impacting employees during pivotal moments in their lives as well as supporting them in meeting their "everyday" needs. Some of these work/life initiatives include:
* Employer-supported premiums on medical, dental, and pharmacy coverage.
* Competitive rates on family medical, dental, and pharmacy coverage.
* Retirement planning and support through our 401(k) plan
* Corporate profit sharing through the 401(k) plan
* Paid Holiday leave
* Paid Vacations
* Flexible work schedule
* Random drug screenings to ensure a safe work environment
* Free family wellness counseling through Blount Memorial Concern
* On-site Blood Pressure monitoring for employees and customers
* Direct deposit payroll saves time and confusion
* Intramural team sports
* Noon cookouts during spring and summer months
* Employer funded life insurance
* Other optional employee-funded insurance plans
TRAINING
At every step in your career, we offer the training and support you need to get your work done effectively. Our programs are highly practical, and often conducted by outside experts to ensure you have a "real world" education as well as an understanding of the car business. While GM mandates through their Mark of Excellence program that most dealership employees take part in some form of training, we try to supplement to fill in the gaps where GM training is not enough. In sales department the training process is an almost daily event. While service, body, and parts are more technical with ASE and ICAR courses along with GM’s curriculum, we encourage and support each person to be the best professional they can be.
HOW DO I APPLY?
West Chevrolet’s goal is to run “lean” with the best people maximizing the hours that they are here; as a result, we usually only post opportunities when positions become available. If you would like to explore career options please fill out the bottom form. If your desired position is available and you are willing to come in for an interview, we will put you in contact with the appropriate department head. Interviews are only conducted on weekdays, after noon, unless the applicant and the interviewer see fit to schedule another time. Please have your reference list with you when you interview.
MY CAREER
“It was tough leaving my old dealership after all the years I had put in there. I wondered if my customers would follow me “down the street” to West Chevrolet, and how they and I would be treated. I was relieved to see that West Chevrolet manages their salespeople individually because we’re all different. They’ve given me every opportunity to be successful and I hope to work here until I retire.”
- Gene Cable, West Chevrolet” Salesman of the Year” 2000-2005
“It’s intimidating moving to a new town. When I got here from Florida I didn’t know if things were really different up here or not. As a mechanic you want a stable shop that keeps the work coming, and management that works with you and not against you. West has been all that and more.”
- Rodney “Dutch” Crandall, Technician. Most service hours turned 2004-2005
