Granted, the Equinox lags behind its competitors with its 175 horsepower turbo four and unimpressive drive train. However, the 2024 Chevy Equinox SUV offers smooth handling and a comfortable interior. You'll appreciate its roomy interior and attractive infotainment features. While it struggles to remain a contender in the competitive crossover SUV class, consumers appreciate Chevy Equinox's availability and value.
Engine, Transmission and Performance
As long as you maintain moderate expectations, the 2024 Chevy Equinox's performance won't disappoint. Its 175-horsepower four-cylinder engine combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the Equinox vehicle delivers adequate performance for both the front- and all-wheel drive packages. Chevrolet's crossover SUV offers smooth shifting and capable handling; however, the Equinox's sluggish acceleration is disappointing, requiring noticeable effort to merge onto the highway. You'll also notice significant cabin noise at higher speeds. On the plus side, the Equinox SUV competently tows up to 3,500 pounds, making it an ideal option for transporting small boats, trailers and campers.
Fuel Economy
According to EPA estimates, the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox SUV's front-wheel drive averages 26 mpg/city and 31 mpg/highway. Its four-wheel drive counterpart reduces those figures to 24 mpg/city and 30 mpg/highway. By contrast, the 2024 Honda CR-V averages 28 mpg/city and 34 mpg/highway; the Hyundai Tucson delivers 24/32; and the Toyota Rav4's median is 28 mpg/city and 30 mpg/highway.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The 2024 Chevy Equinox offers a variety of standard and optional safety and driver-assistance features, earning the crossover SUV a five-star rating with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The following are included among the Equinoxes most notable safety features:

- Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
- Optional adaptive cruise control
Chevrolet highlights safety with its Chevy Safety Assist package that's standard on all trim levels. In addition to the forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking and lane assistance, it features front pedestrian braking, following distance indicator and Intellibeam.
Previously only offered on a select few GM models, Intellibeam has expanded to include all 2024 Equinox trim models. It functions automatically at speeds above 25 mph by turning the vehicle's high beams on and off as necessary for road conditions.

What's New in This Year's Model?
With the exception of the EV Chevy Equinox debut, the manufacturer's 2024 gas-powered SUV rolls out with minimal changes. You'll notice two new metallic paint colors: Lakeshore Blue and Riptide Blue. Chevrolet also updated its Driver Confidence II package to include rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring. Both are available on the Equinox vehicle's LS base model for an additional $395. Prior package upgrades only included rear parking sensors and cost $195 for the LS trim design.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
Chevrolet's 2024 Equinox car offers four trim models, including the most affordable LS with a starting price of $27,995. Its mid-grade LT and RS options start at $30,890 and $32,345, respectively. The Equinox's fully loaded Premier model tops the chart at $33,195. After reviewing each trim's standard features, the RS provides the greatest value. Its leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, blind-spot monitoring, heated front seats, rear cross-traffic alert, power liftgate and remote start will catch your attention. Granted, the Confidence and Convenience packages elevate the LS model's desirability; however, the RS's dark styling sets it apart from the Equinox's entry-level options.
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Chevy's 2024 basic warranty package 3-year or 36,000-mile limited coverage or a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain benefit. Other competitors, such as the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage, offer longer and more comprehensive plans. However, Chevrolet provides one free dealer maintenance visit within the first year. GM also provides an anticorrosion warranty on all vehicles. It covers the sheet metal and body components should they rust due to corrosion within the first six years or 100,000 miles. Roadside Assistance is another standard safety policy enjoyed by all new GM vehicle owners. When you purchase your 2024 Chevy Equinox, you'll receive roadside assistance and courtesy transportation during the first five years or 60,000 miles. Individuals who purchase electric vehicles receive extended time on their warranty. It's adjusted to eight years or 100,000 miles. Some of the Roadside Assistance features include:
